David S. Casey Jr. Named One Of State’s Top 100 Attorneys
San Diego, State (PRWEB) September 23, 2017 -- CaseyGerry’s longtime managing partner David S. Casey Jr. has been recognized as one of the “100 Leading Lawyers in California” for 2017 by the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal, the leading legal newspapers in California.
Highlighting the state’s most influential legal practitioners, the list is compiled each year by Daily Journal staffers, and was published in a special supplement which appeared September 20. Casey Jr. was selected not only for his considerable involvement in the legal community locally and nationally, but also for his work on a number of high profile cases, including a number of high stakes class actions. Recent highlights include:
• Casey Jr. was appointed to the national VW Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee overseeing litigation targeting Volkswagen over its diesel emissions scandal – the largest in consumer class action history – and helped negotiate the $11 billion settlement.
• In a case similar to the VW Diesel Emissions litigation, he was appointed to the national PSC overseeing the Eco Diesel Litigation against Fiat Chrysler now pending in the United States District Court.
• Recently he has handled several high profile aviation crash cases, and last year he took on one of his highest profile cases ever – filing a lawsuit in San Diego Superior Court seeking to hold the tobacco industry accountable for baseball great Tony Gwynn’s death. He is also honored to represent the family of linebacker Junior Seau who died in 2012 and is working to raise important awareness about concussion safety in the NFL.
• For the last nine years, he has served as state chair for Senator Dianne Feinstein’s judicial selection committee, working to find the most qualified judicial candidates for the federal bench in California.
In addition, he is past president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (now known as the American Association for Justice), past president of both the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego and the Consumer Attorneys of California and serves on the board of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. A fellow of the International Academy of Barristers, he is the recipient of more than 60 awards and was most recently inducted into the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego’s "Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame."
He received his bachelor’s degree from Trinity College and a law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law.
