David Weitzman Presents Buckminster Fuller-inspired Pendant: Sphere of Consciousness

The new pendant design called Sphere of Consciousness is a thoughtful combination of the Buckminsterfullerene or bucky-ball and the Seed of Life. It is meant to awaken the wearer’s consciousness to the universe and his/her role in it. It is designed to increase one’s sense of connectedness and unity with the world around him.
Richard Buckminster "Bucky" Fuller was a deep-thinking American engineer and architect hailed as one of the greatest minds of our time. After the tragic loss of his young daughter, as brilliant as he was, Buckminster Fuller went into a downward spiral that ultimately led him to attempt suicide. It was at this point that he had a life-changing experience that involved him being suspended off the ground in a white sphere of light. A full account of this experience is described in Fuller’s biography in the Buckminster Fuller Institute website. After this experience, Fuller decided to turn his life around. He began to dedicate his work to principles that govern the universe and to help advance human evolution according to these principles. His life’s works centered on pioneering solutions that do more with less to improve human lives.
It was a BBC series "Wonders of the Universe" that inspired David Weitzman to revisit one of his favorite concepts about the relationships between humans, the universe and that elusive sense of "consciousness". David has long admired Buckminster Fuller’s work and the series reminded him of the great architect’s geodesic dome which for some reason represented to him this very same concept of "consciousness" without even fully understanding it at the time. This seemingly subtle reminder from the series served as the catalyst that sent David on a search for this new design.
The incorporation of the Seed of Life symbol in this new design stems from the fact that the Fullerene molecule was recently discovered in a meteorite, leading many to believe that this pure form of carbon travels the universe as tiny building blocks of life.
