Davis, CA Transforms into a Ceramics Cultural Epicenter Again this Spring
Davis, CA (PRWEB) April 12, 2015 -- The annual Ceramics festival, hosted by the John Natsoulas Center for the Arts enters its 27th year and continues to bring the leading national and international ceramic artists to Northern California for a weekend of creative instruction and collaboration. This year's conference will feature captivating lectures and hands-on demonstrations from celebrated artists: Patti Warashina, Irina Zaytceva, John Toki, Clayton Keyes, Chris Antemann, Beverly Mayeri, Shalene Valenzuela, Esther Shimazu, Eusebio Lozano, and George Grant.
Chris Antemann and Irina Zaytceva will both be doing their first public demonstrations at the conference this year. Both Antemann and Zaytceva explore contemporary reimaginings of the cultural traditions of Germany and Russia, respectively, through their work. Antemann works with porcelain and creates pieces with a distinct 18th century influence in partnership with the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory in Germany. Zaytceva combines her background in book illustration and the use of fine-grained porcelain and 18k and 24k gold luster to create her rich, painterly work. Patti Warashina, a key figure in the transformation of West Coast ceramics, joins them as another key speaker. Warashina takes a humorous approach in her explorations of such themes as politics, feminism, and the human condition.
Supplementing the weekend already full of ceramics enjoyment are the fifty exhibitions of ceramic art. The majority of these exhibitions feature universities and colleges throughout the entire state. No-where will you be able to see as many exhibitions in such a short amount of time than you can from May 1st-3rd in Davis, CA. Because the downtown area is intimately small and walkable, all of the events are near-by and easy to find, allowing more time spent enjoying the art and less time finding it!
The John Natsoulas Center for the Arts will hold its annual gallery-wide 30 Ceramics Sculptors exhibition in concurrence with the conference.
