Davron Develops Indexing Conveyor Oven with Custom Product Trays
Chattanooga, Tennessee (PRWEB) April 22, 2014 -- Davron Technologies, Inc. designed and manufactured the DTI-1160, an electrically heated indexing conveyor oven designed to temper steel parts used in automotive suspension systems. Prior to installing the DTI-1160, the customer tempered the parts in a batch process. Before loading the parts into the batch oven, they had to be arranged on a custom cart using a labor-intensive process. The DTI-1160 trays are designed to work with a pick-and-place system so that 42 parts can be loaded onto each tray in a vertical orientation. As a result, the DTI-1160 indexing conveyor oven allowed Davron’s customer to streamline the tempering process, increasing the cycle time by approximately 30 percent. The DTI-1160 cycles 160 parts every 30 minutes.
The DTI-1160 includes a heated chamber and cooling chamber in-line. The heated chamber utilizes a single electric heater and can be programmed to operate between 392ᴼ and 500ᴼF. Equipped with a Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR), the heated chamber automatically adjusts voltage to maintain the desired temperature with minimal energy expenditure. The cooling zone features a cooling supply and cooling exhaust fan and utilizes ambient air as the cooling media. The DTI-1160 features PLC control and all motion functions are controlled by servo for accuracy and speed. Airflow within both chambers travels in a vertical top-down pattern.
The usable dimensions of the entire system are 3’6” wide x 8” high x 12’0” long. The conveying system features a 1’3” extension on both the entrance and exit end of the oven for loading and unloading product. The interior of the oven is made out of 16-gauge aluminized steel backed by six inches of eight-pound density mineral wool insulation. The exterior is constructed of 16-gauge carbon steel backed by a structural steel frame and finished with high-temperature paint. The oven includes two access doors located on one side of the heated chamber for cleaning and maintenance. Pneumatically operated vertical doors are featured on both the entrance and exit of the oven. The PLC program enables the doors to open automatically prior to the index motion and close immediately following the index motion of the conveyor.
Davron designed the DTI-1160 indexing conveyor oven based on three criteria provided by the customer: the production rate, the operating temperature, and the available space in the plant for the system. Once the indexing conveyor oven was manufactured, Davron did extensive acceptance testing and training with the customer at Davron headquarters in Chattanooga, Tenn., prior to shipment. Davron then went on site to install the oven at the customer’s facility and provide training for their operators.
