Davron Indexing Conveyor Oven Enhances Brake Lining Curing Process
Chattanooga, Tennessee (PRWEB) October 15, 2014 -- Davron Technologies, Inc. designed and manufactured the DTI-226-200, an electrically heated indexing conveyor oven designed to pre-cure brake linings for a Tier 1 automotive supplier. Prior to commissioning the DTI-226-200, Davron’s customer pre-cured the linings by placing them in fixtures and processing them in batch ovens. This process was very labor intensive and required handling the product numerous times throughout the process. The DTI-226-200 indexing conveyor oven’s custom tooling and in-line processing eliminated the labor associated with the fixtures and the batch processes, reduced the work-in-process, and minimized the time required for the pre-cure cycle.
The oven features two heated zones in the oven chamber. Each zone is capable of operating at different temperature profiles and includes one electric heater, controlled by SCR, and one circulation fan. Zone one ramps the product to a predetermined set point and the product then indexes to zone two, where it soaks at the same temperature as zone one for the specified time. The product then indexes to the cooling zone, which utilizes ambient plant air to cool the product. To complete the process, the product is then indexed to the unload position outside the heated chamber.
The maximum operating temperature range for each zone is 200–450⁰F. The DTI-226-200 features PLC control and all motion functions are controlled by servo for accuracy and speed. The conveying system extends beyond the heated chamber on both the entrance and exit ends to allow product to be loaded and unloaded. The entrance and exit ends of the oven utilize pneumatically powered vertical doors that open prior to indexing and close when the indexing is complete. This system reduces the amount of heated air that escapes the chamber and reduces the amount of ambient air that enters the chamber. The airflow in each heated zone and the cooling zone follows a vertical top down pattern that ensures each product receives the proper cure.
The useable dimensions of the DTI-226-200 are 15’8” wide x 6’4” high x 38’0” long. The interior of the oven is made out of 16-gauge aluminized steel backed by six inches of eight-pound density mineral wool insulation. The exterior is constructed of 16-gauge carbon steel backed by a structural steel frame and finished with high temperature paint. The indexing conveyor oven features four access doors to provide access to the heated chamber for maintenance and cleaning and includes a dedicated exhaust fan for removing byproducts of the process.
Davron designed the DTI-226-200 indexing conveyor oven based on three criteria provided by the customer: the production rate, the product size, and the temperature profile for the curing process. Once the indexing conveyor oven was manufactured, Davron did acceptance testing and training with the customer at Davron headquarters in Chattanooga, Tenn., prior to shipment. Davron then went on site to install the oven at the customer’s facility.
