Spring Hill, Tennessee (PRWEB) August 12, 2014 -- Dawson McAllister, long-time radio talk show host, founder of TheHopeLine, youth speaker and author, will be in Sioux Falls on August 22 and Lincoln on September 3 to speak at community-wide prayer events called "Prayer for a Generation."
As we kick off a new school year and students are filling classrooms, entering dormitories and beginning many activities, the people of these communities are invited to come together to pray for this generation and for the teachers, coaches, youth pastors, and mentors that influence them.
After four decades of talking with youth, Dawson McAllister knows the challenges this young generation faces. He recently said: “It breaks my heart to see what this generation is struggling with because for the most part, it isn’t their fault. So many have been abused, abandoned, ignored, and left on their own to figure out how to navigate life. In response, the world has pointed them to substance abuse, sex, cutting and anything else it takes to get rid of the pain.”
Here’s a snapshot of the challenges this generation faces:
• 3.2 million students are victims of bullying in the U.S. each year
• 43% of kids have been bullied on-line
• 90% of 8-to-16 year olds have viewed pornography online
• 41% of babies born in the U.S. are born to unmarried mothers
• 53% of babies born to women in their teens or 20's are born to single moms
• One out of every 4 females and one of every 5 males has been sexually abused by the time they reach 18
• Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death among 15-24 year olds
While the statistics may be grim, McAllister says, “I also have great hope. There are many teens and young adults who are passionate about helping others. I believe they can and will make a huge difference in their generation. I also believe we need to be spending more time in prayer specifically for the next generation….asking God to rescue those who are lost in despair and strengthening those trying to help their friends and make a difference. I believe our time to reach them may be short, but I know with God all things are possible. As great as the need of today’s teens and young adults is, God’s love for them is still greater.”
"Prayer for a Generation" is an opportunity to kick-start a prayer movement for young men and women in these local communities and our country. The event will be a time for grandparents, parents, students, and everyone in between to come together from all different backgrounds and pray for God to rescue a generation.
