Dayton’s Big Beer Festival Gets a New Home
DAYTON, Ohio (PRWEB) October 20, 2017 -- Dayton’s Big Beer and Barley Wines festival, the Miami Valley’s only beer tasting that focuses nearly exclusively on rare and hard-to-find beers, is moving to a new location. The event, which had previously been held in the Montgomery County Fairgrounds Roundhouse, is relocating to the Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Center. Along with the new venue, there is a renewed interest in serving the most interesting and hardest to find beers, including pub exclusives and beers brewed specifically for the event. All proceeds from the event go directly to the Resident Home Association.
This year continues the tradition of offering extreme and intense beers, some with ABVs that top the previous 12% limit. There will be interesting beers from regional and national breweries that push boundaries in other ways, including oak aging, innovative ingredients, and new brewing processes.
According to Pam Skelly of RHA, "Known by beer geeks in the know as the Dayton Beer Invitational, the event showcases high-quality beers not easily found." As a result, the festival features one of the most exclusive tap lists in the area, including beers like Three Floyds Crack the Skye, Jackie O’s BA Cellar Cuvee, and 50 West’s 10&2 Barleywine. Beers from Hoof Hearted, Streetside, and many other local, regional, and national favorites are also expected.
The event features a Who’s Who of the Dayton craft beer scene as volunteers from breweries, distributors, and the area’s craft beer-friendly establishments work tables, serve beer, and mingle with the crowd. Guests can order food from one of several restaurants at the event, and listen to the Dan Hall Band while sampling their beers.
Big Beers and Barley Wines traces its roots to 2009, when Mike and Donna Schwartz, owners of Ollie’s Place Craft Beer and Whiskey, Belmont Party Supply, and Brewtensils, first teamed with Resident Home Association (RHA). The event is one of the primary annual fundraisers for Resident Home Association (RHA) and has grown each year to become one of the area’s best beer festivals. The money raised supports individuals with developmental disabilities served by RHA. Established in 1966, RHA, an Ohio non-profit provides homes, daily living support and services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
This year’s Big Beer and Barley Wines Beer Fest will be held at a new location at Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Center on November 11, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. All proceeds from the event go directly to the Resident Home Association, a non-profit that provides quality residential services and support to citizens with developmental disabilities.

Resident Home Association (RHA) is rooted in advocacy. The founders designed RHA with the services and support they wanted for their own adult children. They were the first nonprofit agency in Montgomery County to provide residential services for people with developmental disabilities, incorporating in 1966 and opening their first home in 1969.
