Deadline Is Here for 2001 Congressional Mandate to DoD: Have 1/3 of Operational Ground Combat Vehicles Unmanned by 2015

In order to remove warfighters from dangerous tasks, back in 2001 Congress mandated that 1/3 of all operational ground combat vehicles be unmanned by 2015. It wasn’t a passing fad as the request was refreshed in 2006 and 2008 in subsequent mandates. A congressional report was required in 2006 on the progress being made to achieve the goal, and an “assessment of progress” report was required in 2008.
