Deep Blue Scuba & Swim Center Holds Annual Earthy Day Underwater Cleanup
Long Beach, CA (PRWEB) April 13, 2015 -- About 71% of the planet is covered by water; this Earth Day activity will focus on cleaning up what is under the surface. Deep Blue Scuba & Swim Center has organized a Dive Against Debris every other month since 2012 to keep the local beaches clean. Deep Blue has participated in, or run, cleanups here in Long Beach and at Avalon on Catalina Island. April 22nd is Earth Day and they will hold one of their biggest underwater cleanups of the year this weekend. "We love running these activities! More divers come out to clean up our oceans every time we hold a cleanup; it is very inspiring," said store manager Matt Millikin.
If interested in participation on April18th, please be at the Belmont Pier parking lot by 7:45am as there will be a mandatory safety briefing at 8:00am. Scuba Divers are encouraged to plan accordingly as gear will need to be unloaded and waivers signed. The in-water event will begin by 8:30am. Deep Blue will have debris bags available, but participants are welcome to bring their own. Surface marker buoys, lift bags, reels, knives, etc are also encouraged; certification cards are required. They will be providing rentals free of charge for this event, but they are first come, first serve. Due to the popularity of past events, they typically run out early. Rentals will be available starting Friday, April 17th. Rental reservations are not possible.
After the event, there will be a big beach cleanup from 10-12 run by the El Dorado Nature Center. The entire family is welcome to participate one of these Earth Day activities. For more details please visit http://www.deepbluelongbeach.com/index.php/scuba/101-scuba/events/144-dive-against-debris.
