Deep Into Nature: New Work by Jim Bagley & Gerald Balciar Opens at Sorrel Sky Gallery
Durango, CO (PRWEB) September 08, 2015 -- Deep Into Nature: New Work by Jim Bagley & Gerald Balciar showcases work by two long-time Colorado artists on November 5 at the Durango gallery. The artists will be present at a reception from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
The two-man show, Deep Into Nature, features bronze figurative sculptures of animals by Gerald Balciar and majestic landscape paintings of remote places by Jim Bagley. Each artist’s work is inspired by his life-long, abiding and intimate connection with the natural world.
Jim Bagley is ever alert to the awe-inspiring colors and forms of the dramatic interactions between land and sky in the West. He travels on foot to places most others drive around, fly over or otherwise ignore, to locate and document in paint the splendor of undiscovered and undeveloped areas to keep them from being unvalued.
Gerald Balciar is interested in portraying a mood or feeling in his sculptures rather than creating exact replicas of his subject. When creating a sculpture, Balciar’s deep understanding of an animal’s life and world, gained through his exhaustive study of its behavior & habitat, enables him to create a work that is full of life, true to life and a portrait of the essence of the animal.
Sorrel Sky Gallery owner Shanan Campbell Wells finds a kinship in these two artists’ work, offering, “We are reminded of the beauty and power of nature that surrounds us in the West when we look at works by Jim and Gerald. Their art touches us deeply because each artist possess great passion for and experience with the natural world as well as amazing skill.”
Sorrel Sky Gallery’s fresh approach to Western art presents a select collection of contemporary and traditional fine art and jewelry for the discerning collector. Sorrel Sky Gallery was founded in Durango, CO in 2002 and opened its Santa Fe, NM location in 2014. It represents over 75 painters, sculptors and jewelers including bronze artist Star Liana York, painter Billy Schenck, and Ben Nighthorse, among others.
