Del Mar Abuzz With Opening Day Fervor As Countdown Begins
Del Mar, Calif. (PRWEB) July 06, 2015 -- The time for big hats and big bets is only 10 days away when the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club opens its gates for Opening Day, Thursday, July 16. Partaking in Del Mar’s Opening Day is considered an institution among locals and summertime tourists alike. An event steeped in rich Southern California history, the annual Opening Day Hats Contest is the seaside track’s signature fashion festivity of the season.
From the unusual to the flat out jaw dropping, the Opening Day Hats Contest gives fashion-forward – or more appropriate, fashion-eccentric – fans the opportunity to strut their handcrafted hat creations throughout the race day. Participants can enter the contest under one of the following five categories: Most Glamorous, Best Racing Theme, Funniest/Most Outrageous, Best Fascinators and Best Flowers/All Others.
Numerous prizes totaling over $5,000 will be awarded to individuals who place first, second or third within their category: first place will receive a $300 gift card to Studio Savvy Salon, second place will receive a $200 gift card and third place a $100 gift card. Additionally, first place winners in each category will receive a $1,000 gift card to Image Spa MD. The Bing Crosby Grand Prize Winner will snag a two-night luxury suite stay at Harrah's Resort Southern California, along with a $200 meal credit and $200 spa credit. The Grand Prize is valued at $1,300.
Visitors can sign-up for the Hats Contest between 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Plaza de Mexico located inside the Stretch Run admission gates. The Opening Day Hats Contest is sponsored by Studio Savvy Salon, Harrah’s Resort Southern California and Image Spa MD.
