Wilmington, DE (PRWEB) June 14, 2014 -- Last week in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, Sara Haq, Principal of Wilmington-based consultancy SH International LLC, attended the International Conference on Implementing the Food Program, on the invitation and full-sponsorship of the Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee and First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, H.E. Rustam Azimov.
Received a few days prior to the start of the conference, Haq had the chance to meet one-on-one to discuss areas of potential strategic business collaboration with prominent national leaders, including the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade, H.E. Akmal Kamalov and executive leaders of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan. She has since been invited to submit a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade with her ideas for Uzbekistan’s broader collaboration with the international finance community to increase foreign direct investment in the Uzbek agricultural sector. She was also able to meet the Honorable US Ambassador George Kroll at a reception in his private home.
On the first day of the conference, Haq and other conference participants had the chance to visit farms, processing plants, industrial facilities, small businesses, and private enterprises in the Samarkand region of Uzbekistan. Afterwards, Haq discussed the importance of agriculture and food security investment for the Uzbek economy in a nationally broadcasted interview with Samarkand TV.
The final day of the official conference, held at the Symposium Palace in Tashkent, opened with a keynote speech by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan H. E. Islam Karimov, who discussed the country’s current state of affairs and future trajectory, as well as his views on the state of national and international food security. Further speeches were given by Uzbek leaders and leaders of other global organizations including the United Nations, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and Food and Agriculture Organization. Topics such as trends in global food supply, advancement of cooperation with international financial institutions and investors, and implementation of advanced scientific research were discussed in various breakout sessions. The conference concluded with a reception and banquet given on behalf of the Uzbek government.
When asked about the potential for growth in the country and opportunities for investment, Haq said the following: “Uzbekistan is home to incredibly hospitable and generous people and boasts high levels of education and security. Since its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Uzbekistan continues to make steps towards a free-market economy. As it progresses, interest from foreign investors in Uzbekistan’s agriculture sector and in other sectors will steadily increase. We look forward to high level collaboration on this front.”
