DeltaPort Development Stimulates Commercial Expansion
Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) October 01, 2013 -- Cratex Industrial Packing Ltd just announced the opening of its 40,000-square-foot facility on a 4-acre site in Delta, BC offering packing/crating, and transloading services. The location is central to the Lower Mainland of BC and close to DeltaPort.
Transloading is quickly becoming more recognized as an efficient and cost-effective means of distribution. It is simply the act of transferring goods from import containers to “over-the-road” carriers, but is becoming more popular with importers because of the immediate savings.
For example, de-stuffing a container in Vancouver near the Port and sending the goods out to points outside the Lower Mainland via truck is significantly more cost-effective than sending the loaded container out and having to bring it back empty. Another good example of cost savings would be when the contents of three 40-foot sea containers can be transferred to two 53-foot trailers.
Oliver Pusch, president and co-owner of Cratex Industrial Packing Ltd, says, “Transloading requires both efficient workmanship and specialized equipment. Our staff is properly trained and certified, and our facility has the right equipment for transferring the contents of sea containers. There has been tremendous growth in Port Metro Vancouver Facilities, especially in containers, coal, grain and potash. They all hit record highs for the first two quarters of 2013. Containers are up three percent and coal is up nine percent. Major growth is expected in the Roberts Bank area, and Port Metro will soon commence work on the DeltaPort Road Railways Improvement Project to accommodate the increased demand.
Port Metro is also currently planning a 106 million dollar investment to bolster port security and increase efficiency. The investment will cover the cost of two new facilities which will be built on Tsawwassen First Nation’s land and in downtown Vancouver. The Terminal Two expansion is scheduled for completion in 2015.
Robin Silvester, president and chief executive officer for Port Metro Vancouver, said, “The growth is based on strong demand for Canadian natural resources in Asia, while imports point to a strengthening Canadian economy.” It’s predicted that container traffic will triple through the Canada Pacific Gateway by the year 2030.
