Deltek Receives Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Award for Partnership with Year Up
HERNDON, Va. (PRWEB) June 10, 2015 -- Deltek, the leading global provider of enterprise software and information solutions for project-based businesses, today announced that it has received the Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Award in the Partnership category from the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce. This award recognizes Deltek’s partnership with The Year Up National Capital Region chapter, a nonprofit based in Arlington, Va., that provides a one-year, intensive training program offering low-income young adults a combination of hands-on skill development, college credits, corporate internships and support.
After completing Year Up’s six-month intensive classroom training in technology, business communication and professional skills, qualified participants interview at companies in the DC metro area for internships. Every six months, Deltek hosts a new Year Up Intern Cohort, a program that provides exposure to key corporate experiences that are important to career growth, including project management, networking and leadership development. Over 30 Deltek employees work with interns during each session.
Since the program’s inception at Deltek, 33 interns have participated with 20% moving into entry-level positions at Deltek upon completion of the program. Former Year Up participant Ashley Gross, who first started as a Year Up intern in Deltek’s IT department in 2011, embodies this success. Gross was hired as a full-time IT support associate after completion of her internship, and now, four years later, she has assumed a leadership position in the IT department of Deltek’s Dallas office.
“Although I had previously been enrolled in an IT trade school, Deltek and Year Up gave me invaluable professional experience that truly took my career to the next level,” said Ashley Gross, IT Support Specialist. “I entered the program eager to learn and ready to be challenged and was not disappointed. Today, I’ve been able to give back by mentoring Year Up interns within Deltek’s IT department, holding them to same high standards to which I was held.”
