Demand for Koa Timber Soars: HLH Recently Sold Out for 6th Consecutive Year
Honolulu, Hawaii (PRWEB) December 18, 2015 -- HLH, LLC, a sustainable forestry company based on Hawaii Island, recently reached its annual sustainable koa planting capacity for the sixth consecutive year, part of a nationwide surge in timber investing. The company has sold out annually since starting in 2010, with 2015 setting a record for advance demand; completely selling out for the upcoming 2016 planting year.
“By harvesting these trees under our groundbreaking sustainable model, we are removing pressure on the destruction of old-growth trees while meeting a skyrocketing demand for tropical hardwoods,” said Jeff Dunster, CEO of HLH. “This is the most technologically advanced forest in the world, and it further showcases the ability to grow dynamic, economically viable forests while supporting the return of rare and endangered wildlife and understory.”
HLH uses specially developed RFID tracking technology that allows each investor to track the growth of the lots online throughout their 25-year harvest duration.
Through state-of-the-art technologies and proprietary forest management practices, HLH is promoting long-term forest health, carbon sequestration, ecosystem diversity and unparalleled data collection for research and development, all while creating green jobs for Hawaii families. HLH also supports the efforts of the nonprofit Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative to plant more than 1.3 million endemic koa, sandalwood and other endangered Hawaiian species for permanent reforestation across Hawaii.
In 2014 and 2015, HLH was recognized as a “B Corp Best for the Environment” honoree from the nonprofit B Lab. HLH was accredited as a certified B Corporation in 2013, joining a new class of companies using the power of business to help resolve social, environmental and economic problems.
