Dental Implants: Permanent Solution to Lost Teeth
MIAMI, FL (PRWEB) December 13, 2013 -- In the past, dentures were the only way to replace lost teeth, but didn’t prevent bone deterioration in the jaw and restrict a user to certain types of food. However, full mouth dental implants, which can now be installed at TM Prosthodontics’ Miami dental office, have vastly improved on dentures, in that they can actually allow full replacement of teeth with natural-looking and fully-functioning artificial teeth.
TM Prosthodontics, a Miami dentist office, today announced new and improved dental implants for patients who have lost one or more teeth in the past. Dr. Tal Morr, the head dental physician, is following patients through every step of the process of getting their dental implants, and educates them on the whole process before proceeding.
The dental implant procedure takes about six to eight months and begins with the anchoring of titanium “posts” to the jawbone, which protrude out of the gum. The bone tissue eventually bonds to these “posts,” creating a solid anchor for artificial teeth to be attached. Before the teeth are molded and put in, however, the dental professional will attach a healing collar, which is a small metal ring that closes the surgical area off but keeps the gums from fully covering the anchors where the tooth will go. Then, the new teeth are ready to be shaped, manufactured, and then attached to the titanium “posts,” or anchors.
Acrylic dentures, while not necessarily bad, are generally inferior to implants. Dentures can only be fitted for people who are missing many or all of their teeth, and must be removed and cleaned every day, and while not as expensive, they will wear out and require replacement or realignment regularly. Dentures also don’t prevent the gum tissues from receding/shrinking due to the absence of teeth. More severely, the absence of teeth often causes the jawbone to deteriorate as well, which can affect the shape and integrity of the face. Implants, on the other hand, have the same benefits as natural teeth, in that they spur the growth and natural maintenance of bone and gum tissues in the mouth.
