Dentistry@OceanaBoulevard sails through Care Quality Commission practice inspection Southampton July 11th, 2013
Southampton, Hampshire (PRWEB UK) 6 August 2013 -- The Dentistry@OceanaBoulevard Team have worked hard for the last year and a half to be fully prepared for this inspection and one can view the results at http://www.cqc.org.uk/public
This inspection is to ensure that all dental practices have reached the maximum standard for all aspects of the dental journey. This is good news for the dental practice existing patients and prospective clients.
The summary is as follows:
The CQC inspected the following standards as part of a routine inspection. This is what the CQC found:
- Respecting and involving people who use the services, met this standard.
- Care and welfare of people who use services, met this standard.
- Cleanliness and infection control, met this standard.
- Requirements relating to workers, met this standard.
- Assessing and monitoring the quality of service provision, met this standard.
A member of the CQC came to visit us; on her arrival there was a full diary of patients and the CQC member was able to meet a number of the patients.
This member of the CQC who inspected the surgery spoke with a few of the patients and the practice also gave the inspector (with permission of the selected patients) telephone numbers for a couple of these selected patients as required.
Part of our inspectors report contained; "We spoke with five patients, four staff and observed care and treatment of three patients with their consent as part of our visit. All the patients we spoke with were highly complementary about the care and treatment they received. They told us they had received an appointment including for emergency in a short time frame. They told us the staff were very kind, courteous and respectful." Each member of the staff is taught that it is important to always explain everything in full to the patient. The practice works by an ethic that at all times the patient should be aware and understand before any treatment is carried out, treatment plans are provided and explained step by step, as noticed by the inspector; "We saw that the dentist gave clear information about specific treatments, and treatment plans were explained. Information was shared using images, for three patients this was by showing details about the condition of their teeth following an X ray. This helped the patient to visualize this and to understand the impact of different treatment options. All consultations were carried out in private. The dentist checked to ensure the information was fully understood and used simple language and gestures."
The inspector looked at audits, from general practice regulations to hygiene regulations.
Information about the services available was clearly displayed in the waiting area at the surgery. Other health related information such as tooth grinding and oral cancer was also available. The patients we spoke with were aware of the charges, and information about treatment from the dental hygienist was explained to them. The staff were aware of the importance of checking and updating the medical histories of the patients at each visit. At each appointment patients confirmed they completed a health declaration form. This was to ensure that any changes since the last visits were not missed.
To summarize the team at Dentistry@OceanaBoulevard all received a pat on the back for the work they had put in and passing the inspection with five stars. Most importantly this means that the practice is able to successfully meet and treat all aspects of dentistry that any patient may require.
