Department of Justice Prepares Anti-Heroin Initiative With Grants, Media Campaign
Malibu, CA (PRWEB) July 24, 2013 -- Over the past weeks and months, analysis and careful monitoring of emerging developments in the subculture of illegal substances has revealed a troubling, but difficult to ignore trend. Long a fading ember in the drug world, heroin has found new energy as the substance of choice among far too many people, across multiple states in the US, and in steadily growing numbers.
USA Today, in an article entitled OxyContin a Gateway to Heroin..., published June 2013, suggested that the proliferation of opiod painkillers is responsible for the return of heroin. Whatever the cause, recent news stories in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania have demonstrated that the narcotic opiate is experiencing an unfortunate surge in popularity.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) in the state of Wisconsin has taken note of this trend and is prepared a series of grants that began funding as of July 1st, 2013 as well as an anti-heroin media campaign to confront and curtail it. The grants will be awarded to local governments with large scale ideas on how to best utilize police, social services, and healthcare providers to deal with the mounting problem. Grants will be awarded up to $125,000. The DOJ is currently reviewing proposals with selections expected by late summer or early fall.
