Dependable Auto Shippers Commends Three NJ Employees For Courageous Efforts To Save an Elderly Man From a Burning Vehicle
Mesquite, TX (PRWEB) March 11, 2015 -- On January 23, Christopher Hennie, Eric Rios, and John (Jaoon) Lasheras, all employees of Dependable Auto Shippers, saved the life of 67-year-old Edison resident Tadeusz Smakolski after Smakolski's 2014 Chevrolet Cruze struck a utility pole and began erupting in flames.
Christopher Hennie, the New Jersey Dispatcher for Dependable Auto Shippers vehicle shipping company, stated that he was leaving work and had just turned on the ignition when he heard a loud crash from behind.
"I turned around, looked behind me, and saw a smoking car that had just hit a utility pole," Hennie stated. "Being a new father, I thought 'Oh my God, there could be kids in that car' and I sprinted over. The car's engine kept revving up and smoke was pouring out everywhere."
Hennie called to his coworkers, Rios and Lasheras, and opened the door of the vehicle to find that the front airbags had not deployed and there was one elderly man inside, very badly injured. While Hennie dragged the man (Smakolski) out of the burning vehicle and safely away -- about 30 or 40 feet, Hennie stated, Rios immediately dialed 911 and Lasheras grabbed the company's fire extinguisher.
"The man was a strong guy," Hennie noted. "He didn't seem scared but he kept pointing at his chest and asking for help. I couldn't breathe from the smoke -- and I wasn't even in the car -- so I knew that I had to get him away from the vehicle as fast as I could."
It took a few minutes for the police and paramedics to arrive, after which Smakolski was transported to the UNDNJ University Hospital in Newark, NJ. He remained there in critical condition and ended up passing away from complications due to his injuries, but both the NJ region and the management team at Dependable Auto Shippers believe that these three men displayed immense courage and fortitude in their attempts to rescue him.
