Dermatologic Surgeons to Convene in Chicago for 2013 ASDS Annual Meeting
Rolling Meadows, Ill. (PRWEB) August 09, 2013 -- Nearly 1,000 doctors and others in the dermatologic surgery field will learn the latest research breakthroughs and innovative technologies in cosmetic and reconstructive skin treatments when the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery’s 2013 Annual Meeting convenes in Chicago this October.
The 2013 ASDS Annual Meeting Oct. 3 to 6 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago will include more than 65 scientific and educational sessions covering the entire spectrum of the specialty – from cosmetic rejuvenation to reconstructive repairs to cancer treatments. Participants will learn the latest breakthroughs and advances in injectables, lasers, sclerotherapy, fat transfer, skin tightening, brow-lifts, neck-lifts, skin cancer surgery, hair transplantation, flaps and grafts.
The 90-plus hours of sessions are divided into four comprehensive curriculum tracks: cosmetic surgery, reconstructive surgery, practice management and young dermatologic surgeons/residents.
Must-see sessions this year include:
• ASDS Unplugged – Straight-forward, unfiltered presentations on lasers, fillers, practice management and neuromodulators.
• What Would a Dermatologic Surgeon Do? – Approaches for both reconstructive and cosmetic repairs to defects.
• Menaissance: Unique Aspects of Treatment of the Male – Beauty and health techniques for the modern man.
• Pushing the Envelope: Megacombinations – Information on combining three or more modalities for a non-surgical facelift or global rejuvenation.
• Invasive and Non-invasive Body Contouring – Treatments include liposuction, cryolypolisis and ultrasound.
“The ASDS Annual Meeting is the largest and most comprehensive educational program devoted exclusively to dermatologic surgery,” said ASDS President Timothy C. Flynn, M.D. “This premier event provides a great opportunity for today’s dermatologic surgeons to remain at the forefront of the field tomorrow.”
The ASDS Annual Meeting also will feature hands-on training workshops on tumor excision, injectable techniques and advanced suturing as well as live patient demonstrations, an exhibit hall with more than 120 exhibitors and numerous networking functions including the Eighth Annual Gala to benefit the Dermasurgery Advancement Fund.
Featured speakers include Duke University basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski and dermatologic surgery pioneers R. Rox Anderson, M.D., and Rhoda S. Narins, M.D.
Krzyzewski, better known as “Coach K,” will discuss the motivational techniques, leadership skills, teamwork strategies and confidence-building steps he has used in his successful coaching career in his keynote address, “Victory Through Teamwork and Leadership.” Krzyzewski’s lecture is being supported by Medicis, a division of Valeant.
Dr. Anderson, a pioneer in laser and energy-based treatments, will present the Leadership in Innovation Lecture, “Surgery on the Scale of Tissue Itself,” on Oct. 4. The lecture, which honors forward-thinking individuals in the art and craft of dermatologic surgery, will explore the untapped potential of and strategies for skin surgery on the tissue scale.
Dr. Narins, a pioneer in tumescent liposuction, will give the inaugural Lawrence M. Field, M.D., Honorary Lecture, “Celebration of a Legacy: How a Lifelong Commitment to Mentoring Changed Dermatologic Surgery,” on Oct. 5. The lecture will detail her ground-breaking journey in tumescent liposuction, describing how her accomplishments laid the foundation for her continued advancements in dermatologic surgery.
A new mobile app this year offers vital information on-the-go for exhibit hall and hotel floor plans; detailed schedules; learning tracks; and information on where to eat, relax and play in Chicago. The ASDS Member App – available in Apple and Android versions – also will allow real-time audience response to posed questions and can be used for completing evaluations during or immediately after sessions.
Meeting attendees can earn 50 American Board of Dermatology Maintenance of Certification Self-assessment (ABDMOC-SA) credits at no extra charge within the scope of the Annual Meeting.
Online registration is now open for the 2013 Annual Meeting, with an early registration discount available through Sept. 6. Registration is open to member and non-member board-certified dermatologists who are practicing on a full-time basis for or employed by a medical practice that is focused on dermatologic surgery. In addition, allied health personnel who are employed by a dermatologic surgeon may attend with their registered employer.
