Design-your-own Kids Clothes Start-up The Patchery Launches in Minneapolis
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) February 11, 2015 -- In response to the burgeoning do-it-yourself (DIY) trend in the United States and the surge in moms eager to be part of the custom-made movement, particularly with the clothes their children wear, a design-your-own kids clothes start-up called The Patchery has launched in Minneapolis.
The Patchery (https://www.thepatchery.com), which is the brainchild of local marketing professional and mother of two Amber Gunn Thomas, launched in January 2015 and is at its heart an online platform that enables customers to be an integral part of the clothing-design process.
“We make clothes with you, not for you. You are a key part of the design process. You get to come in the design studio with us and create something truly unique. We then hand-craft that product with you and your child in mind,” Gunn Thomas explains.
Visitors to The Patchery website pick a product to design and mix and match fabrics from curated collections to create a unique piece of clothing. With over 400 million possible combinations, there is something to fit every style.
The Patchery website also includes tight integration with popular social networks such as Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest, allowing visitors to share their designs with friends and family both before and after they purchase.
“Our community has a voice in everything we do,” Gunn Thomas says. “Whether it is voting on new products and fabric collections, or testing pre-release products, our customers have a say in making sure we get it right.”
Amber Gunn Thomas is an expatriate of the corporate world, where she spent 15 years in marketing and advertising for various companies. She left in search of more balance and fulfillment. On that journey, she had the idea for The Patchery.
“The majority of clothing bought by American customers is of course not made here. Yet, many people say they are willing to pay more for products made in the Unites States. In response, The Patchery is sourcing our fabrics from U.S. companies, and we hire independent sewing contractors right here in Minnesota, primarily women working out of their homes, and pay them above average wages. It aligns with our values … and is simply the right thing to do.”
