Designing The Future: Pineapple House Design/Build Firm Takes Tips + Tools To College
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 03, 2016 -- In the 2016/2017 academic year, students in the Florida State University Department of Interior Architecture and Design will find fresh, updated resources in their design library, courtesy of a philanthropic investment by Atlanta-based Pineapple House Interior Design.
In 2015, the FSU Department of Interior Architecture +Design was recognized by DesignIntelligence as having the #1 "Most Admired Graduate Program" and the #2 "Most Admired Undergraduate Program" in the country. The talent exhibited by alums, interns and students from FSU's program prompted Pineapple House to establish a grant for the university’s design resource room, as well as help develop a curriculum for the school’s upcoming Interior Design Studio IV class.
"To positively impact as many interior architecture and design students as possible, Pineapple House is helping populate the FSU resource library," says Pineapple House COO Cynthia Pararo. "This literally puts the "tools of the trade" into the hands of each student. Further, we are developing a syllabus with Professor Jill Pable, to bring 'real world' design challenges into the classroom."
At the beginning of the semester, Studio IV students will travel to Atlanta to tour Pineapple House and the Atlanta Decorative Art Center (ADAC.) The 2-day field trip will allow students to engage with Pineapple House designers and be introduced to commercial and residential vendors, products and processes at ADAC. Upon return, the undergrads will hypothetically convert a historical Tallahassee home from its current office function to a single-family dwelling, while graduate students will interpret a high-end residential challenge based on an actual Pineapple House project. At the end of the course, the grads will return to Atlanta to present their schemes to Pineapple House design advisors, then tour the residence that was the subject of their course, to experience the professionally designed home.
Additionally, qualifying undergraduate and graduate Studio IV projects will be evaluated and in some cases, rewarded by industry leader Kravet, via their 2016 "Designer of Distinction" student competition. Kravet, Inc., is a global "to-the-trade" home furnishings powerhouse, and sponsors the competition to encourage and recognize emerging design talents. Last year, two FSU students traveled to New York City to make presentations and receive a 2015 "Designer of Distinction" award for their work in the Interior Design Studio IV class.
