Detroit Institute for Children Appoints Marge Resmer LaRuffa as Chief Executive Officer
Detroit, Michigan (PRWEB) April 17, 2015 -- In this role, Resmer LaRuffa is responsible for strategic and business management of the DIC’s services across Southeast Michigan. The organization provides children with high-quality occupational and physical therapy, speech and language pathology; social work; and psychology services within public, private and charter school systems, Head Start, early intervention and home bound programs. The DIC provides all testing, assessment, evaluation and therapy services. Unlike many providers, the DIC does not require a minimum number of hours to initiate a contract. This helps support the schools by simplifying program management and containing the costs to provide in-school services to children. The DIC also provides low or no cost programs and workshops for parents and professionals who provide care for special needs children.
Resmer LaRuffa brings more than 20 years of experience in operations and human resource management to the task of expanding services and diversifying the reach of the services to special needs children in Michigan. Her background includes executive leadership positions for a variety of for profit and nonprofit organizations. She has led strategic planning and the execution of business development activities designed to attract, satisfy and retain customers and employees.
Resmer LaRuffa’s appointment is one more step in the transformation of the DIC. Established in 1920, the organization operated for many decades out of a single Detroit clinic and expanded their services to schools more than 30 years ago. More recently, the organization has focused on providing services in schools and other community based locations so that their services are provided where the children are located rather than requiring families to transport the child for care.
