Detroit, MI (PRWEB) July 24, 2013 -- The Detroit Sports Commission (DSC) announced today that it is partnering with First Responders For Fitness (FR4F) to host the inaugural Michigan Battle of the Badges Aug. 23-25 on Belle Isle.
The 2013 Michigan Battle of the Badges will promote health and wellness through a series of age-grouped occupational and sporting competitions for first responders, their families and civilians. Participants will include active, retired, reserve and volunteer federal, state/provincial and municipal law enforcement as well as fire fighters, paramedics, nurses, lifeguards, and emergency services personnel.
Highlighted by the Toughest First Responder competition, the Michigan Battle of the Badges will include a Police vs. Fire Tug-of-War as well as Vehicle Extrication, Water Rescue and Medic Challenges. Also, the public is invited to participate in a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, Kickball Tournament, Indoor Rowing, and a Charity 5K/10K walk and run.

“We look forward to partnering with First Responders For Fitness for the inaugural Michigan Battle of the Badges," said Dave Beachnau, DSC executive director. “This event furthers our mission of attracting sporting events to metro Detroit and could lead to an effort to pursue top-level international multi-sport events involving first responders in the future.”
Events the DSC and FR4F are looking to host in succession are the Michigan-Ontario First Responder Games, Can-Am Police-Fire Games, US Police and Fire Championships, World Firefighter Games and World Police and Fire Games.
“The Michigan Battle of the Badges is a great opportunity for the dedicated men and women from U.S. and Canadian First Responder communities to come together and promote health and wellness for all,” said Roger Harper, FR4F president. “The event is free to the public and we encourage everyone to attend to cheer on their local agencies and departments.”
