Detroit Style Pizza Co. Adds Michigan-made Faygo, Towne Club Soda and Great Lakes Potato Chips to Menu
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) January 31, 2014 -- Detroit Style Pizza Co. today announced its three Metro Detroit pizzerias are now serving Michigan-made Faygo Pop, Towne Club Soda and Great Lakes Potato Chips along with its World Champion Authentic Detroit Style Pizza. The move aligns with World Champion Pizza Maker and Detroit Style Pizza Co. President Shawn Randazzo's pledge to serve Michigan-produced food and ingredients whenever possible.
Faygo, the "original party pop," was founded in Detroit in 1907. In 2009, Bon Apetit magazine named Faygo "America's Best-Tasting Root Beer." Faygo now produces more than 30 flavors of beverages.
Towne Club Soda is a Detroit tradition dating to the mid-1960s, when the company was founded by Harold Samhat. Still made in Detroit and sold in distinctive colorful bottles, there are now more than 12 flavors of Towne Club Soda.
Great Lakes Potato Chip Co. specializes in premium-quality kettle chips. The family-operated Northern Michigan-based business makes its potato chips in small batches from Michigan-grown potatoes. Available in Original, Barbeque, and Salt & Vinegar varieties, Great Lakes Potato Chips are made "skin-on" to add extra zip to the flavor.
"We're thrilled to be able to add three well-known Detroit and Michigan brands to the Detroit Style Pizza Co. menu," said Randazzo. "We want to immerse our customers in the full Detroit flavor experience, beginning with our Authentic Detroit Style Pizza. Authenticity is paramount, so now our customers can enjoy a traditionally-prepared Detroit Style Pizza, a side of potato chips produced right here in Michigan, and wash it all down with a cold, crisp Detroit-made Faygo or Towne Club Soda."
The trio of Michigan brands adds to Detroit Style Pizza Co.'s locally-produced fare; Randazzo crafts his recipes from Detroit- and Michigan-made sources whenever possible. That includes produce and fresh vegetables grown in Michigan as well as the pizzeria's custom-milled gluten-free pizza flour, which is stone-milled by Linden-based Westwind Milling Co. with only fresh, certified organic and GMO-free Michigan-grown grains.
Detroit Style Pizza Co. also shreds its own brick and mozzarella cheeses, deli slices its own ham, cooks and crumbles its own Italian sausage, and uses only Five Star Romaine lettuce and the freshest in-season baby greens to make its salads.
"Detroit Style Pizza Co. is proud to serve Michigan- and Detroit-made products, which allows us to not only serve fresher, more delicious pizza and other dishes, but also allows us to support Detroit-area businesses," said Randazzo. "Most importantly, Detroit Style Pizza Co. is able to give our customers a better Authentic Detroit Style Pizza and a more authentic Detroit experience."
Detroit Style Pizza Co., home of the World's Best Pizza (2012), bakes Authentic Detroit Style Pizza with World Champion Pizza Maker Shawn Randazzo's award-winning pizza dough recipe. The dough is pressed into well-seasoned square steel pans – the same type of pan once used as parts trays by Detroit's automotive manufacturers – then lined with pepperoni and topped with brick and mozzarella cheeses that caramelize to the crust when baked in real bottom-fired deck ovens. The baked crust is light and airy on the inside, crispy on the outside, and Randazzo's signature red sauce is ladled on top after baking, which lends Detroit Style Pizza the nicknames "red top pizza" and "upside down pizza." The style is also often being referred to as "the Motor City secret."
Detroit Style Pizza Co. customers can add Faygo Pop, Towne Club Soda or Great Lakes Potato Chips to their orders at all three Metro Detroit locations: Roseville, St. Clair Shores and Clinton Township.
