About the Author
Ruth Schilling received her B.A. degree in Elementary Education at the University of Northern Colorado, then known as Colorado State College, in 1968. She had two of her four children while attending college and had her other two children while teaching. Shortly after she divorced her husband, she married a man who became an alcoholic. They moved to Casper, Wyo. where she taught for 21 years, retiring in 1999. Three years into this marriage, it became clear that she needed help. She attended a few Al-Anon meetings but did not continue until five years later. Eventually, she divorced the alcoholic, lived on her own for three years and is now married to an alcoholic who has been sober for 22 years. Schilling has actively attended Al-Anon since 1986 and has sponsored many members during that time. She is currently sponsoring six people who are happily and gratefully growing in recovery from the affects of another person’s alcoholism.
