DFX Design Publishes White Paper: How to Improve Quality and Reduce Cost Using DFX

The white paper describes in detail the process of using DFX to uncover gaps in designing and manufacturing circuit boards. Important questions regarding process, testing and material sourcing can be answered ahead of time to optimize manufacturing speed and quality. A key component of the DFX process is designing for production and not for prototype.

How to Improve Quality and Reduce Cost Using DFX lists five specific considerations in board design that optimize the manufacturing process, one of which is fiducial requirements and placement. Fiducial targets are used to locate the PCBA within the assembly, inspection and test machines. Without fiducials it is virtually impossible to manufacture a PCBA, especially if it contains fine-pitch devices and BGAs. All PCBAs should have at least two fiducial targets placed in opposing corners on the longest diagonal of the PCB.The DFX process looks to design for an automated manufacturing and test process while optimizing the board’s quality and lowering costs.
By bringing together the DFX process and good team collaboration, manufacturers can now build a printed circuit board assembly right the first time. This reduces manufacturing and test steps, shortening the customer delivery time and presenting a better product.
