Diallo Mwathi Jeffery Captures His Infamous Hometown in Angelic New Light
Oakland, California (PRWEB) April 30, 2014 -- Photographic cityscapes of the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Area by fine art photographer Diallo Mwathi Jeffery are on sale this Friday at the renowned PHOTO Fine Art Photography gallery (http://www.photogalleryoakland.com) at 473 25th Street in Oakland.
The public is welcome to PHOTO Gallery’s First Friday art reception on May 2nd from 6pm to 9pm. The show will remain open to the public, continuing until May 17. PHOTO Gallery is open Thursday – Saturday from noon-6 p.m. and Sunday through Wednesday by appointment.
The show, entitled Oakland and Beyond / Sense of Place, features Diallo’s iconic perspectives of the Oakland - San Francisco cityscape. The exhibit offers spectacular panoramic images of Oakland and San Francisco.
The brilliant highly detailed limited-edition color photographs are rendered to pressed cotton, exquisitely framed, or mounted to bamboo. The renderings are individually signed by Diallo, and range in size from 19 x 13 inches to a 20 x 60 inch panorama of the Oakland - San Francisco bay, shot from Oakland.
Also on exhibit in this show are outstanding photographic works by notable photographers Linda Fitch, Thomas Grubb, Charles Anselmo, and Lee Nelson. Artists will be present Friday to meet guests and discuss their works.
Diallo is a graduate of Oakland Unified Public Schools and Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, and studied at Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. Diallo discovered photography as a child using his father’s Pentax K1000 35mm film camera. After attending a stop-motion film camp held by Mosswood Park recreation center in Oakland, Diallo was hooked on visual arts.
Diallo used a borrowed video camera to shoot other films, studied photography under high school teacher Jackie Begrin-Marston, and landed an intern position with noted KTVU newsroom videographer, the late Willie Kee.
Diallo previously exhibited his photography in the Oakland City Hall rotunda gallery, Joyce Gordon Gallery, and the Anfilo Café and Gallery in Oakland. Diallo was employed as a senior television producer for the Monterey County Office of Education, and taught photography and filmmaking in Alameda and Oakland Public Schools. Diallo is a winner of the 2005 Berkeley Film Festival’s Best of Festival Student Filmmaker Award, the 2009 Alliance for Community Media WAVE Award for Promoting Civic Engagement through Community Media, and was honored in 2014 as an Official Selection of the Oakland International Film Festival for his television direction of the pilot for “Entanglement: The Dramatic Series.”
