Diaspark to be a Sponsor at the 5th Annual, “Roll on Capitol Hill,” Legislative and Advocacy Conference
Edison, NJ (PRWEB) June 22, 2016 -- "On this 70th anniversary year, what began in 1946 as a small, determined group of World War II veterans advocating for greater civil rights and independence in New York City, has spawned the most significant grassroots policy initiative for people with disabilities in the nation," said James Weisman, United Spinal's president and CEO.
Roll on Capitol Hill is United Spinal’s annual legislative advocacy event that addresses issues that impact the health, independence and quality of life of individuals living with spinal cord injuries and disorders. ROCH allows our strong advocacy work to thrive as we participate in coalitions and partnerships across a broad spectrum of issues important to our 50 chapters, 200 support groups and over 1 million individuals impacted by (SCI/D) and disorders across the country.
The event started in 2012 as a chance for wheelchair users to know and educate themselves about the policy issues affecting spinal cord injury and disorder (SCI/D) communities, and push for legislation that will improve the quality of life for the millions of Americans with disabilities. Approximately, 17,000 new spinal cord injuries occur in the U.S. each year.
"Diaspark is always proud to sponsor and align ourselves with non-profit organizations, especially organizations with causes that help our military veterans. Non-profits, in my opinion, are the most effective way to ensure money and aid is directed toward the population they are intended to serve. As a technology service provider, we believe the opportunities available with modern devices allow organizations such as the United Spinal Association to have an amazing impact on society." - Danny Edwards, VP of Healthcare at Diaspark.
“We are excited to participate in the 5th annual year of ROCH, and witness the continued push towards legislation, assistance for veterans, and continuing education to all members,” said Tony Bossolina, a member of Diaspark’s leadership team who spearheads strategic sales and marketing initiatives.
On the evening of June 28th, United Spinal will host a Congressional Awards Reception to recognize members of Congress for their outstanding service to people with disabilities and veterans:
- Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) - 2016 James J. Peters Disability Rights Champion Award
