Dimensions UK staff awarded for enabling people with learning disabilities to have a voice
(PRWEB UK) 25 September 2013 -- Tracey Garcia works for Dimensions, a national not-for-profit organisation which provides support for people with learning disabilities and autism. She was awarded the Dimensions ‘Inspiring People’ award for partnership at an annual award aimed at valuing the organisation’s staff and recognising good practice; winners for which are voted for by staff.
Tracey’s role at Dimensions involves ensuring people supported by Dimensions are involved and represented in decisions. Last year she was in partnership with many people creating, launching and rolling out the organisation’s Social Care Charter.
The charter called for people with learning disabilities to have choice and control over their money, opportunities for greater independence, to be a part of the community, have control and choice over relationships and to have a voice and be listened to.
Jackie Fletcher, Executive Director of Quality & Compliance, nominated Tracey for her award. She said: “Tracey worked closely with our Public Affairs Officer to help connect us better with government and within the sector, ‘public affairs,’ so that we can have a say in decisions that impact our ability to support people.
“Tracey works in partnership with the Senior Management Team and people we support. Our next campaign is to work in partnership with the Parliament Outreach team in Westminster to organise our Love Your Vote workshops – which will allow people with learning disabilities and autism to learn all about voting.”
Chief Executive Steve Scown said: “Our inspiring staff members helped to bring our values to life.
“They set great examples to colleagues and have shown newer members of staff what ‘good’ really looks like. And – looking at the bigger picture – they’ve helped to support the strong reputation which, I am happy to say, Dimensions has in the field of social care. I find that inspiring.”
