Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB UK) 17 September 2013 -- The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) successfully introduced secure online voting from Scytl for the organization’s remote members during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) election in Vancouver, British Columbia. During this election for Second Vice-President and Secretary-Treasurer, DGC members who could not be present onsite in Vancouver were given the ability to cast an online ballot while members attending the AGM in person cast paper ballots.
Online voting was not intended to replace attendance at this Directors Guild of Canada’s AGM; it was a way for the DGC to evaluate online voting as the future voting platform for the Guild’s AGM elections.
“We evaluated Scytl’s online voting option based on the following criteria: ease of use, flexibility, speed, process and turn-around time for providing the auditor the necessary reports,” said Marjorie Chu, Project Manager for the Directors Guild of Canada. “Scytl’s online voting solution 100% met these requirements during our evaluation. This election went very well. As a result, the DGC is now strongly considering replacing all paper ballot elections with online voting during future AGM elections.”
When the call for ballot casting was announced, remote DGC members were able to cast their ballots via Scytl’s online voting platform by logging on to a secure site, using their DGC membership numbers as their login names and entering their PIN numbers. The PIN numbers were provided to members in advance via email from the DGC National Office. The secret ballots cast online were combined with the secret ballots cast by members attending the AGM in person to determine successful candidate.
“We are very pleased with our system’s performance during the Directors Guild of Canada’s AGM and the added flexibility it offered this customer,” said Susan Crutchlow, General Manager of Scytl Canada. “We received fantastic feedback from not only our customer, but our customer’s auditor, Tom McGivney of Prentice Yates & Clark, who reported finding online voting during this election to be quick and reliable, allowing more time to focus on the process rather than spending time counting manual ballots. As a result of this successful undertaking, all of us at Scytl look forward to assisting the DGC with future elections.”
The DGC also engaged the services of Scytl’s partner, Toronto-based Union Calling, Canada’s leading provider of telecom services exclusively to unions. Union Calling provided the “telephone town hall” aspect of the election process. This allowed simultaneous and secure participation by remote AGM attendees from anywhere in Canada, as if they were in the conference room itself. They had the ability to make nominations, listen to the candidates’ campaign speeches, and ask the candidates questions.
“We had an excellent experience working with both the Directors Guild of Canada and Scytl on this election process,” said Bill Reno, Union Calling’s CEO. “Our combined services of online voting from Scytl and online participation in the electoral process from Union Calling were a great way for the DGC to provide inclusivity and flexibility for all of their members whether they attended the AGM in person or via remote access.”
