Disabled Veterans National Foundation Makes Major Contribution to Yuba Sutter Stand Down Event for Homeless and At-Risk Veterans
Washington, DC (PRWEB) August 13, 2015 -- The Disabled Veterans National Foundation (http://www.dvnf.org) announced today that it will contribute clothing and other essentials worth more than $200,000 to the Marysville, CA event for homeless and at-risk veterans.
The event – known as a “Stand Down,” after the break that American troops are allowed at times during combat – is sponsored by the Yuba Sutter Veterans Stand Down and will occur at Riverfront Park on Biz Johnson Drive, beginning Thursday, August 20, and will conclude on Saturday, August 22. Homeless, low-income and other at-risk veterans can receive counseling and casework, medical care, food, clothing and other essentials free of charge.
Yuba Sutter Veterans Stand Down is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the issues facing homeless and low-income veterans in the northern California region. It has been in operation since 1999.
Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF) is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit service organization that provides critically needed support to disabled and at-risk veterans. For the Stand Down, DVNF will contribute a shipment of items including: emergency blankets, insect repellent, ointment, snack foods, and soap, as well as 11 pallets of DVNF care kits.
This donation is part of DVNF’s Health & Comfort program.
“We have had a long-standing relationship with the Yuba Sutter Stand Down because of the outstanding work they do to give disabled and at-risk veterans access to the resources and services they need to get back on their feet,” said DVNF CEO, Joseph VanFonda (USMC SgtMaj Ret.). “We are pleased to support this important event with this shipment and hope that all the veterans in attendance will recognize just how much we appreciate their service to our country.”
This will be the fourth consecutive year that DVNF has supported this stand down. This three-day event will serve approximately a thousand veterans in northern California.

The Yuba Sutter Veterans Stand Down’s specific purpose is to provide services to any veteran, active or non-active military, senior veterans, disabled veterans, veterans’ spouses and dependents; without regard to race, color, national origin, creed, age, sex or religion. Provide transportation, housing, meals and shelter for homeless veterans and family members. Provide information concerning and assistance with counseling services; any and all services that the veteran and family members are deemed eligible at the local, state and federal level.
