Disabled Veterans National Foundation Sends Shipment to Lee County, Florida, Homeless Coalition Stand Down
(PRWEB) January 30, 2015 -- The Disabled Veterans National Foundation (http://www.dvnf.org), a nonprofit veterans service organization that provides critically needed support to disabled and at-risk veterans who leave the military wounded—physically or psychologically—after defending our safety and our freedom, has sent a shipment of assorted goods to support the Lee County Homeless Coalition’s Stand Down for homeless veterans in Ft. Myers, FL.
The shipment is the second of its kind that DVNF has sent this month, with the first going to Mobile, AL for a Stand Down on Friday, January 30th.
This Stand Down will take place on Saturday, January 31st beginning at 9AM, at the City of Palms Stadium in Ft. Myers. Over 100 veterans are expected for the event.
The items sent to the Ft. Myers event include: shirts, hats, pants, socks, emergency blankets, reading glasses and first aid kits. In addition, many articles that DVNF describes as “comfort” items were included, such as lotions, soaps, and other assorted goods in care kits.
In an effort to increase outreach with veterans of many communities throughout the country, DVNF will have staff attending the event, volunteering to assist with any duties needed throughout the day.
“Our first shipments of 2015 will have supported almost 2,000 homeless and low-income veterans in Florida and Alabama,” said DVNF CEO, Joseph VanFonda (USMC SgtMaj Ret.). “We feel that it is so important to support homeless and disadvantaged veterans because around 53 percent of homeless vets have a disability, while more than half suffer from a mental disability.”
The Lee County Homeless Coalition is hosting the Stand Down. Any excess Health & Comfort items will be continue to be utilized by the organization throughout the year, as well as for its November Stand Down.

• Providing supplemental assistance to homeless and low-income veterans through the Health & Comfort program and various empowerment resources.
• Serving as a thought leader on critical policy issues within the veteran community, and educating the public accordingly.
