Discovery Summer Sales Begins Marketing for Terminix International in South West
Austin, TX (PRWEB) November 30, 2013 -- One Texas company that was founded by three young Canadian entrepreneurs - is making waves in the pest control industry in the Southwestern United States. Discovery Summer Sales has been marketing pest control services for Terminix International since 2011, after their own pest control company, GoGreen Lawn & Pest Control of Austin, Texas was acquired by Terminix in that same year. Discovery recently sealed a deal with Terminix that would see them exclusively market services on behalf of the pest control giant through 2015.
"This may not be big news in some industries, but in ours an opportunity like this comes around once in a lifetime," said Discovery co-founder Brendan Quinlan. "We couldn't be more pleased to be working with an organization with the outstanding record and reputation that Terminix has. There is no pest control brand with more customers in the United States than Terminix. When you have university students out canvassing homeowners for service, I can't over-state how big a difference it makes to be marketing for the biggest and the best."
So you can imagine that it raised some eyebrows when Discovery announced that it would continue to hire Canadian university students for its summer sales program. While Discovery does certainly employ US citizens - it makes a special effort to hire and recruit students for its summer sales program from Canadian universities and colleges for paid summer positions. When asked why they would continue this practice when every year there are more and more US students looking for summer work, the answer was simple.
"We have many US employees, and all of our full-time year round positions are filled by US workers, but we have always placed an emphasis on hiring Canadian students for summer term positions. The three of us all started in the pest control industry while attending university in Canada, as a means to travel for our summer breaks, and earn enough to pay for school."
But how much can a university student really make canvassing for pest control customers - "A LOT. We have students earning twenty, thirty, forty thousand dollars over a four-month summer work term," but Mr Quinlan is also quick to point out, "however thats not the norm. Most students will find themselves making around twelve to fifteen thousand dollars over the four months if they really apply themselves. But the reality is that there's no other job out there for Canadian post-secondary students that offers this kind of earning ability. And thats what gets us all excited to get up and work in pest control every day!"
Discovery reports that 2013 was their best year to date, with a record number of participants set to return for another summer abroad in 2014. 2014 program participants propelled Discovery to a summer where representatives performed at a level that exceeded expectations, and saw median summer representative earnings come in at $12,450 over the four-month summer term. (May - Aug)
