Distinguished Professor of Nursing Sandra K. Hanneman Joins Physician-Patient Alliance for Health & Safety Advisory Board
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 30, 2015 -- The Physician-Patient Alliance for Health & Safety is pleased to announce that Sandra K. Hanneman, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN has joined PPAHS’s advisory board.
Dr. Hanneman is the Jerold B. Katz Distinguished Professor for Nursing Research and a professor in the Center for Nursing Research. She conducts laboratory and clinical research on weaning adult patients from mechanical ventilation, using a chronobiology perspective, and clinical trials to test the efficacy and safety of interventions to prevent pulmonary complications in mechanically ventilated adults. Dr. Hanneman was the 1994 University of Florida College of Nursing Outstanding Alumna and 2000 Distinguished Research Lecturer of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. She has served on several federal and non-federal grant review panels and editorial boards of nursing research journals.
Dr. Hanneman was the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses [AACN] representative at the recent invitational roundtable discussion on respiratory compromise.
“I am honored to be an advisor to the Physician-Patient Alliance for Health & Safety, and being a part of PPAHS’s goal for improving patient safety and health outcomes,” said Dr. Hanneman. “One of PPAHS’s key initiatives is to reduce the risk of respiratory compromise. Increasing awareness about respiratory compromise and advancing clinical practice to reduce the risk of respiratory compromise is so critical, because any patient can succumb to respiratory compromise, and succumb to it quickly. One minute you may have a patient who is doing fine, and then a few minutes later rapidly deteriorating. In many cases, if we could detect this deterioration earlier, we could prevent the need for massive intervention.”
“Dr. Sandra Hanneman’s knowledge of respiratory issues will be invaluable to our initiative to reduce the risk of respiratory compromise in patients,” said Michael Wong, JD (Executive Director). “Dr. Hanneman brings great experience and a passion for patient safety to the Physician-Patient Alliance for Health & Safety advisory board, and we look forward to receiving her counsel and advice.”
