Doctor’s novel spins tale of life, death, battle for souls
OAK BROOK, Ill. (PRWEB) December 16, 2015 -- Is there life after death? John Belmonte, M.D., explores the threshold between life and death and what comes after in his new novel, “Syzygy” (published by Archway Publishing), about a trauma surgeon, Dr. Damian DeSantos, who faces that very question after a horrific car wreck en route to a medical emergency at the hospital.
Damian finds himself caught in a realm between life and death, where there is a battle for souls between the Tribunal of Souls and the evil Marauding Souls of the Dead. While the Tribunal recruits him to return order to those who still live, Damian faces his own demons when he is reunited with his dead wife.
Belmonte says his book “is about the hiatus between the living, the dead and what is in between. How those who have died still are in our daily lives. Whether we recognize them or not.”
An excerpt from “Syzygy”:
Something forced me to look at the face of the trauma victim in the ER. I tried to wipe the blood and dirt from his face, but couldn’t. My hand passed through him like a ghost. “It can’t be! That’s me! Can’t they see me standing here? Can’t they see that he is me on the table?”
