Doctors in Delaware from Atlantic General Hospital Offer No-Cost Services to Area Residents
Berlin, MD (PRWEB) August 30, 2014 -- AGH Healthy Happenings, a community education and outreach service provided by the Doctors in Delaware at Atlantic General Hospital, are now offering area residents a variety of free health-related services. In addition to no-cost blood pressure screenings at a local pharmacy, the hospital in Maryland offers first aid care at local sports tournaments.
In addition, the Maryland physicians and other medical staff provide free disease management and falls prevention workshops on various dates and at many locations throughout the year. The workshops, which were researched and developed by Stanford University, help participants to lead healthier, happier lives by acquiring the tools they need to better manage their conditions.
For example, one of the newly-offered workshops that is taught by the primary care physicians in Delaware from Atlantic General Hospital is called Living Well; this chronic disease self-management workshop is a six-week program that is designed both for those with chronic diseases as well as caregivers of those with chronic disease.
“Topics covered include how to manage the emotional effects caused by fatigue or pain – both common side effects of chronic conditions – how to communicate with your family, caregivers, and doctors, proper nutrition and its benefits, how to make daily tasks easier, and how to get more out of life,” said a spokesperson for the surgery centers in Delaware.
Another new workshop that is sure to be popular with area residents is called Chronic Pain Management.
“If you have chronic pain that lasts for more than three to six months, varies in intensity, affects one or more areas and creates stress in your life, then this six-week workshop will benefit you,” noted the spokesperson for the surgery centers in Maryland.
“Those who successfully complete the program have more vitality, less pain, less dependence on others and improved mental health and are more involved in everyday activities.”
In addition, the six-week Diabetes Self-Management workshop is designed to help those affected by diabetes to better manage their disease. The workshop is ideal for those who have participated in the Diabetes Outpatient Education program previously but may need a refresher – or for those recently diagnosed with the disease. As the spokesperson noted, both programs are meant as a supplement to the care provided by a physician.
Finally, the Stepping On workshop will empower older adults to carry out healthy behaviors that reduce the risks of falls. Over the course of seven weeks, the classes will focus on balance building exercises and strength building exercises and ways to keep people safe from falls in their homes and in the community. Participants will also hear from physical therapists, vision experts, community safety experts, pharmacists and past participants who visit the class to offer their expertise in falls prevention.
The classes are absolutely free, but pre-registration is required. For upcoming class dates and to pre-register, call Laura Small at 410-629-6820.
