Doctors of Nursing Practice, Inc. Releases Highlights from the Sixth National Doctors of Nursing Practice Conference in Phoenix, AZ
Phoenix, Az (PRWEB) October 10, 2013 -- The Sixth National Doctors of Nursing Practice Conference took place in Phoenix, AZ September 25, 26 and 27, 2013. The energy was tremendous as over 330 doctoral prepared nurses met to share, network and explore opportunities to improve health care outcomes.
This year’s event was especially good due to the caliber and expertise of keynote speakers, plenary session speakers, panel discussions and the great breakout session presenters. Over 75 scientific posters were displayed electronically demonstrating the scholarly work of DNP graduates, students and academic colleagues.
Mrs. Nicole Price, an esteemed representative of the Cy Wakeman organization, challenged the crowd with inspiring messages about how to take personal and professional responsibility in leadership. Other keynote speakers included Dr. Penny Jenson, Past-President of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and Dr. Amelie Holier, CEO of Advanced Practice Education Associates. Both provided insights into leadership in practice and policy while challenging those in attendance to explore and apply their talents to the growth of the discipline while addressing the needs of society and all patient populations that are touched by nurses.
The event began with a pre-conference workshop offered by Cynthia Saver who authored “The Anatomy of Writing for Publication.” Dr. Susan Newbold was kind enough to share her expertise of internationally renowned talents in nursing informatics. Also, Dr. Jeannette Crenshaw and Barbara Cherry shared groundbreaking information regarding the advancement of leadership in academic settings as a result of the doctor of nursing practice degree.
Drs. Dianne Conrad, Katherine Moran, and Rosanne Burson presented one of the greatest examples of the DNP helping to improve outcomes by sharing their work in Michigan. These three practice scholars were classmates, and continue to be with their efforts to bridging the gap between academia and practice. They shared their experiences in linking DNP education and practice through a statewide collaborative event that is shaping the direction of health care in Michigan and beyond.
There were many great presentations. Judy Murphy, the Deputy National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in Washington, DC, shared insights and recommendations for the doctoral prepared nurse to make the most of technology in practice. Michelle Troseth, an active member of the TIGER Initiative, delivered a lively presentation about the role of the DNP in managing practice technology while utilizing the concepts of polarity.
There were twelve exhibitors and vendors at this year’s conference, including Springer Publishing Company and Jones and Bartlett Learning. The kind folks at Jones and Bartlett sponsored a luncheon with Dr. Lisa Chism as a speaker. As most in the DNP world know, Dr. Chism is one of the first authors / editors of DNP text books in the country. It was a pleasure to have her and the staff of Jones and Bartlett at this year’s event.
Next year’s national conference will take place October 8, 9 and 10th, 2014 at the Nashville Marriott, Nashville, TN.
