Donations for CSRA Home Connections’ “Operation Hand-Warmer 2013” Exceed 23,000 Items
Evans, GA (PRWEB) October 31, 2013 -- CEO Larry Miller recently announced that CSRA Home Connections Local Alliance Co-Op Marketing Program’s “Operation Hand-Warmer 2013” wound up with yet another successful conclusion, reaching over 23,000 items donated.
“We received even more media support and volunteerism from all across the CSRA (Central Savannah River Area) than ever,” reported Miller.
“Operation Hand-Warmer” is designed to supplement standard military issue clothing and supplies, specifically for those who have to do hand-related tasks requiring dexterity in combat zones. Hand-warmers can be found at any sporting goods store, warehouse club (Sam’s or Costco), Wal-Mart, Academy Sports, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Lowe’s, etc. For more information about “Operation Hand-Warmer” visit their website at http://www.operationhandwarmer.com/.
Larry Miller and Bert Dean, CSRA Home Connections Executive Director, were special guests on the “KICKS Wake Up Krew” radio show on Tuesday, Oct. 1 to wrap up this year’s drive after KICKS 99 concluded their third big donations push.
The CSRA Home Connections Networking Breakfast, on Oct. 9, featured several special guests as well as a review of this year’s drive from Burt Sappenfield, “Operation Hand-Warmer” founder, owner of Majestic Floor Care and a CSRA Home Connections Special Ambassador. Special thanks and recognition were given to those who contributed “above and beyond the call of duty” to make “Operation Hand-Warmer 2013” a success.
United States Army Captain Edwin Seda led a group of soldiers from Fort Gordon who joined dozens of volunteers from CENTURY 21 Larry Miller Realty and CSRA Home Connections Preferred Providers to pack boxes and sign Christmas cards for troops in Afghanistan and other cold-weather duty stations.
CENTURY 21 Larry Miller Realty Director of Communications, Dawn Human reported that schoolchildren from three major home school associations in the CSRA, as well as from public and private schools in Georgia and South Carolina participated in a letter-writing campaign, which culminated on Sept. 25. Students of all ages composed hand-written, encouraging and supportive letters and cards of thanks which will be distributed to hundreds and hundreds of military men and women belonging to service branches in military installations overseas.
Burt Sappenfield reported that one of his military connections familiar with “Operation Hand-Warmer” researched what other similar civilian organizations have done in the past year or so and “unofficially” reported that the local group here in the CSRA was “the largest contributor, dollar for dollar, pound for pound, in the country.”
Over 30,000 hand-warmers and other needed supplies have been donated since the program launched in early 2012. Hand-warmers and other supplies are a huge morale boost for military troops stationed thousands of miles from home.
“It’s both humbling and rewarding when the commanding officer of a ‘special ops’ division reports that severe frostbite cases among his troops have dropped to zero since we started ‘Operation Hand-Warmer,’” explained Sappenfield. “So we know we’re doing a good service for our troops.”
Donations for “Operation Hand-Warmer” may still be made year-round at both CENTURY 21 Larry Miller Realty offices. Visit http://c21larrymiller.com/ for more information.
