Donations From the ‘GoFundMe Sonesta SXM Staff’ Campaign, Funded by Guests, Family and Friends, Was Distributed To Maho Group And Sonesta Resorts Sint Maarten Employees
MAHO BAY, SINT MAARTEN (PRWEB) October 12, 2017 -- In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, Sonesta Sint Maarten Resorts and The Maho Group’s management team received numerous requests from loved ones and concerned past guests to create a channel to donate directly to staff and their families. Within days, management facilitated an official GoFundMe campaign: http://www.gofundme.com/sonestasxmstaff, for the employees of Sonesta Sint Maarten Resorts as well as the real estate properties and the casinos operated under The Maho Group to help provide food, essential supplies, and household items.
The showing of compassion and solidarity was felt on October 5, 2017 with the first round of funds distributed at the Belair Community Center in Sint Maarten, chosen for its central location and convenience for those without transportation. Employees of Sonesta Ocean Point Resort; Sonesta Maho Beach Resort; Sonesta Great Bay Resort (recently purchased by Sunwing); Casino Royale; Diamond Casino; Golden Casino; Maho Real Estate, Island Cleaning Services, and Resorts Cleaning Services each received $120 worth of vouchers applicable toward purchases at Le Grand Marché supermarkets for food and essential supplies. Le Grand Marché, the largest supermarket chain on Sint Maarten, was chosen as a partner to further support local business and invigorate the island’s economy.
As of this date, the campaign has reached US$96,000 of a US$300,000 goal. One hundred percent of the donated funds are being distributed directly to 900 employees in need, with no administrative costs or fees deducted.
“Many of the guests who have visited our Sonesta Resorts in our beloved island know that it’s the team, the people of Sint Maarten, who are the heart and soul of our hotels and destination,” commented Sonesta Resorts Sint Maarten Management Team about the fund raising campaign. “It is the people that make the resort experience beautiful and make guests smile every day. Anyone can be in a extraordinary location, but without these heartfelt smiling faces and genuine service, hotels in the Caribbean simply would not operate the same without their dedicated staff.”
The entire Sonesta Sint Maarten Resorts management team and The Maho Group staff would like to thank all donors, Le Grand Marché and the Belair Community Center for their show of empathy, kindness and generosity.
