Donna K. McGee Shows at Foundry Gallery
Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 12, 2014 -- On November 7, 2014, Donna K. McGee opens What Was I Thinking at Foundry Gallery. The gallery, located south of Dupont Circle (1314 18th St NW) boasts an incredible group of artists that rotate their work monthly. The show, What Was I Thinking, is McGee’s two-year study of color, texture and form. The show will not only be an opening to McGee’s thoughts as she creates her work, but will give visitors an opportunity to share what they think her work represents.
WHAT: A Solo Exhibition featuring Donna K. McGee
OPENING: Friday, November 7, 2014 6:00 – 8:00 PM
EXHIBITION: What Was I Thinking, November 5 – 30, 2014
WHERE: Foundry Gallery, 1314 18th St NW, Washington, DC 20036
Working in acrylic and texture often on a large scale, McGee’s bold painterly brushwork combined with dramatic forms and color has a breathtaking impact upon the viewer. McGee is frequently asked, “What were you thinking when you painted this?” McGee says, “I have no memory of how it all came together. I’m always moved when others tell me about things they see in my paintings, that I never intended.” The show will include McGee’s thoughts on her work along side each painting as part of the exhibition.
What Was I Thinking is seldom what the viewer sees and McGee loves that interaction. What others think while viewing her work will have a place in the exhibition. McGee will create an interactive component to her show by asking viewers to write their thoughts on each piece and what they see in the work. The descriptions will be shared throughout the exhibition at the Foundry Gallery.
Since her first solo show at the National Institutes of Health in 2000, McGee has caught the interest of collectors and her work can be found throughout the DC area. She has shown in exhibitions in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Chicago, London and DC. She paints mostly medium to large-scale work. Her paintings have won numerous awards and have been purchased by several law firms, associations, and private collectors. As a member of the Foundry Gallery, McGee has had multiple solo shows.
