Doris Durbin’s New Novel Follows Unexpected Love Story
Blairsville, Ga. (PRWEB) December 14, 2013 -- Doris Durbin’s new historical fiction, “The Captain Takes a Wife: The Captain Chronicles, 1875” (published by CrossBooks) follows the adventures of Sarah Franklin and Captain Harry Richardson against the backdrop of the north Georgia mountains in the post-Civil War era.
Sarah is a young teacher running from an arranged marriage. Harry is a former Confederate soldier who was captured and spent time in prison before being released to help the U.S. Cavalry fight the Indians. Harry is trying to leave his military life behind and start a new life as a circuit rider preacher in the mountains when he meets Sarah at a revival meeting.
As Harry is boarding a train to leave for his next preaching engagement, he meets Sarah again, but this time she is being chased by gunmen. She engages him in a ruse to help her escape. Impulsively, he kisses her and she boldly suggests they get married. Suddenly, everything changes and events spiral out of control as they board the train to make Harry’s trip together. “The book is a love story about a man who tries to see the world through God’s eyes and live accordingly, and a woman who has the courage to marry him,” Durbin explains.
Book groups will enjoy this inspiring love story and find much to discuss. Durbin has also included discussion questions, recipes, music information and a knitting pattern, all related to the story.
