Dot & Bo Study Uncovers the Signature Styles of Cities Across the Country
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 09, 2015 -- Dot & Bo, a guided shopping service helping people to discover great style for their homes, today released findings from the inaugural U.S. Style Census. To better understand the consumer base at the center of the $230 billion dollar U.S. furniture market, the study examined over 100,000 customer orders to reveal the signature home decor styles in highest demand across the top 15 U.S. regions.
Each Major City Has its Own Distinct Taste
From Atlanta to Seattle, many cities displayed preferences one might expect based on their geographic location and personalities, such as Phoenix’s penchant for earthy Southwestern style and Nashville’s Rustic Shabby Chic leanings. Notably, the study highlights the wide range of sub-styles that fall under the broader category of modern design, many of which appear to have strong regional ties.
“While design categories such as industrial and contemporary are tremendously popular on their own, what’s interesting is that we’re seeing regional twists on theses styles,” said Allyson Campa, Vice President of Marketing at Dot & Bo. “The findings support our unique merchandising model in which we introduce customers to new decor collections each day, curated around a theme - or a mix of designs - to help people express their personal style at home.”
U.S. Style Census “Signature Style” Findings:
- Atlanta - Shabby Chic
- Boston - Contemporary
- Chicago - Contemporary Industrial
- Dallas - Industrial Southwest
- Denver - Industrial Scandinavian
- Kansas City - Farmhouse
- Los Angeles - Urban Nomad
- Miami - Contemporary Organic
- Minneapolis - Scandinavian
- Nashville - Rustic Shabby Chic
- New York City - Diverse
- Phoenix - Southwest Bohemian
- Portland - Mid-Century Bohemian
- San Francisco - Mid-Century Organic
- Seattle - Industrial Rustic
Key Highlights:
- Boston ditches traditional roots in favor of contemporary style: The northeastern city showed a surprising affinity for angular modern designs.
- Miami makes room for nature: Despite it’s love for a sleek aesthetic and shiny metallics, this cosmopolitan city still embraces natural materials and airy shapes, with their own brand of “Contemporary Organic” style.
- New York City is too diverse to pinpoint: Each major city had a clear signature style - except New York, which was too diverse to categorize.
