(PRWEB) March 05, 2015 -- Atwood announces the reopening of its downtown Chicago restaurant after a three-month renovation, unveiling a remodeled dining room and expanded bar area. It is the ideal social setting for guests to enjoy Executive Chef Brian Millman’s seasonal American cuisine and handcrafted cocktails helmed by Head Bartender Ray Anguiano. This March also marks the 120th anniversary of the famed Reliance Building, a Chicago landmark now known as Kimpton’s Hotel Burnham. Located inside its historical structure, Atwood is the first installment of Hotel Burnham’s $4.1 million dollar renovation, which will conclude with newly renovated guest rooms and public spaces in the spring of 2015.
Architecture and Décor
Constructed in 1895 as the former Reliance Building by legendary architects Daniel Burnham, John Root and Charles Atwood, Atwood’s renovated interiors breathe new life into this National Historic Landmark whose radical steel and glass design set the precedent for the nation’s first modern-day skyscraper. Designed by Virginia-based BCDG Studio to evoke a sense of timelessness and casual elegance, the décor pays homage to the building’s rich history while also integrating an expanded bar area with high top seating overlooking State and Washington Streets through iconic 18-foot tall windows. The space blends brown and grey tones that are juxtaposed by walls flanked with white subway tile and white painted millwork columns. Tufted leather banquettes and classic style seating with white tabletops adorn warm wood floors. To provide a more intimate dining experience, partitions are embellished with white subway tile and ornamented with translucent glass framed in dark metal. A focal point for the restaurant is the 16-foot long wood top bar, finished with a matte black painted millwork front, white subway tiled bar columns and glass display shelves. To expand the bar area from nine to 26 seats, the exposed restaurant integrated a portion of Hotel Burnham’s Lobby into its design. Amidst the hustle and bustle of Chicago’s Loop, Atwood will continue to remain a welcoming destination for Chicago locals and visitors alike to settle in for an exceptional food and drink experience.
Seasonal American Food + Drink
Open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and late night bites, Executive Chef Brian Millman’s menus focus on delivering seasonally-inspired American cuisine garnished with playful, flavor-forward touches. The dinner menu was conceived with social interaction at its forefront. Larger entrée-sized dishes – such as sriracha & honey-glazed Duck Fat Fried Chicken Thighs and Pan Seared Chicken with focaccia & leek bread pudding – are served alongside bar snacks and shareable plates like Crispy Sweetbreads tossed in sweet & sour sauce and Cumin Lamb & Pork Meatballs coated in Szechuan peppercorn sauce. Meals are finished with delectable dessert options like Rhubarb Upside-Down Cake with strawberry-cream cheese ice cream and Mini Chocolate Bundt Cake with candied fennel and toasted pistachio ice cream. Overseen by Head Bartender, Ray Anguiano, the expansion of the bar area allowed for the new addition of four draft lines dedicated to local breweries. A broadened list of handcrafted classic and signature cocktails will be made with local spirits, fresh ingredients and house-made bitters and syrups. Ray’s signature cocktail, The Old Estate, is comprised of Aged Rum, Ransom Old Tom Gin, Fresh Lime Juice, Benedictine Liqueur, House-made Honey Syrup and Angostura Bitters, and garnished with freshly grated nutmeg.
Private Dining
A sophisticated setting for intimate parties, rehearsal dinners and corporate functions, Atwood’s dining room can accommodate up to 75 seated guests; full and partial buyouts are available. The newly refreshed Reliance Room, which is located on the mezzanine level of Hotel Burnham and overlooks Atwood and Washington Street, can accommodate up to 30 seated guests.
