Frederick, MD (PRWEB) February 26, 2016 -- Downtown Frederick Partnership is pleased to announce that the organization was awarded $45,500 in Operating Assistance Grant funding from the State of Maryland’s Department of Housing and Community Development. The Partnership applied for three grants for projects within the organization’s 2020 Strategic Plan that will continue to improve Downtown Frederick.
A Technical Assistance grant was awarded in the amount of $15,500 to hire professionals to design interior upgrades at 118 North Market Street, a Frederick County owned building that will house an economic innovation center including a high-tech incubator. This project falls within the “Work” portion of the Strategic Plan which is focused on retaining public sector jobs and bringing new jobs to Downtown Frederick with emphasis on technology jobs.
A Main Street Improvement Project grant was awarded in the amount of $10,000 to improve a pedestrian alley located between 16 and 18 East Patrick Street. This alley project is a part of the “Connect” component of the Strategic Plan which is focused on taking action on underutilized sites and connecting downtown neighborhoods. The Partnership has been a State designated Main Street Maryland community since 2001 and Main Street Improvement Project funds are only available to Main Street designated communities in Maryland.
Finally, Nonprofit Assistance Funding was awarded to the Partnership in the amount of $20,000 to support the “Live” portion of the Strategic Plan which focuses on marketing the benefits of living in Downtown Frederick, studying the economic benefits of living in Downtown Frederick and changing policy by removing barriers to achieving more residents in Downtown Frederick.
These three grants will allow the Partnership to continue to promote Downtown Frederick as a place to live, work, play, stay and connect – all components of the organization’s 2020 Strategic Plan. In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Partnership created and launched the Strategic Plan and will implement projects outlined in the plan over the course of the next five years.
The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is committed to the success of many cities and towns across Maryland. The Operating Assistance Grants are an effective way for local governments, development corporations and nonprofits to obtain or provide services which will assist or carry out community development activities.
