Doyle Raizner Files Suit against IUD Manufacturer
(PRWEB) August 05, 2013 -- According to court documents, Mirena has been widely marketed as a safe, effective and easy method of continuous birth control for women, but one woman alleges that her life has been destroyed by the product. Leading injury firm Doyle Raizner, filed a lawsuit on her behalf and alleges that Mirena manufacturer Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals failed to adequately warn patients of the risks – and left their client with difficulty conceiving children.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff had the intrauterine device implanted by her physician without difficulty and confirmed that it was properly placed at her six week follow-up appointment. But just weeks later she was rushed to the hospital with severe abdominal pain and required surgery to remove her right ovary, right fallopian tube, her appendix and the Mirena device, which had migrated (Case No: 4:2013cv00580).
The complaint alleges since the time of plaintiff’s uterine perforation and surgical removal of Mirena, she has had difficulty conceiving a child.
“We allege our client was not fully warned of the risks involved with this device, and as we researched her case we found that this may be a recurring theme in the way Bayer marketed Mirena,” Mike Doyle, a founder of Doyle Raizner alleges. “We believe there is no way to undo what they have done.”
Mirena has been criticized in the past for over-zealous marketing, and received a warning from the Department of Health and Human Services (12/30/2009) for failing to communicate risk information and using deceptive marketing.
