DPS Dave Can Now Restore Smoke-Damaged Photographs

But instead of waiting until disaster strikes, the company is encouraging customers to digitize their photos now.
"About once a month our store room smells like smoke," said David Orr, president of DPS Dave. "Someone realizes their files need to be digitized after a fire destroys some old family photographs, and this is happening monthly. When it's not the smell of smoke, it's the smell of mildew and mold, so we've been blogging the last three or four months about restoration services and the need for restoration."
Orr added, "The guy who's got the photos we smell in the storeroom now, Edward, he called me up two weeks ago. He was thinking that he was going to have to go to a restoration service to pay $20 to $100 per image to have them restored. He had thousands of photos, and he already lost about half of them in a fire. He poked through charred remains and pulled the remaining photos out of the ashes. There was water damage, everything was covered in soot. To make a long story short, a lot of those photos are going to be restored just fine now."
In November of 2015, DPS Dave highlighted their new dust removal filter, a system that removes dust and dust damage at the time the photo is scanned. By automating this restoration process, DPS Dave is able to offer their customers prices far below the industry standard.
Typically, it costs around $20 per picture for these manual restoration services. But because DPS Dave uses a custom scanning process that simultaneously restores photos, the process can cost as little as twenty cents per image.
Recently, the photo restoration company has seen numerous individuals who have experienced fires in their homes, either looking to restore damaged photographs or digitally back-up their remaining photographs in order to prevent losing them.
Now, DPS Dave wants to reinforce the need to digitize slides and photographs because of how susceptible they are to disaster and the ravages of time. When digitized, photographs are "forever flawless."
