Dr. Ajay Srivastava to Present on Pet Health Issues at Global Pet Expo
Menomonie, Wis. (PRWEB) February 11, 2015 -- Researcher Ajay Srivastava, DVM, PhD, of Vets Plus, Inc. will be presenting two educational sessions at Global Pet Expo. He will be discussing possible nutraceutical solutions for two major health concerns for pets: obesity and cognitive decline.
Obesity in Pets: What is the Solution? on Friday, March 6, 9:00 am-10:00 am
Cognitive Decline in Aging Pets: Role of Nutraceuticals on Friday, March 6, 11:00 am-12:00 pm
In his first session, Dr. Srivastava will discuss causes and management of pet obesity, primarily through diet. As over 50% of pets are overweight or obese, this is a topic of great concern for many pet parents and presents a growing opportunity for pet retailers.
As the average lifespan of pets lengthens, a greater number of dogs experience canine cognition disorder (CCD) which affects dogs’ learning and thinking ability. While nearly 10 million dogs suffer behavioral changes due to CCD, there is no proven cure and limited FDA-approved pharmaceutical treatment. Dr. Srivastava’s second presentation will explore the recent research in nutraceuticals that address some of the concerns of cognitive decline in senior pets and may help improve their quality of life.
Dr. Srivastava is director of technical services and clinical research at Vets Plus, Inc., a leading researcher and manufacturer of health supplements and treats for pets, where he is involved in product formulation and clinical trials. He has over 20 years of experience in drug development and nutraceutical research. In 2014, he spoke at the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) annual conference on cognitive health.
