Dr. David Harvey Offers Expertise at the 34th Annual Meeting of the Florida Society of Dermatological Surgeons
Newnan, GA (PRWEB) December 30, 2015 -- Dr. David T. Harvey, head surgeon of the Dermatology Institute for Skin Cancer + Cosmetic Surgery in Newnan, GA, was excited to be a contributor at the 34th annual meeting of the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons. Dr. Harvey, a former president of the society, participated on the first two days of the event, which was held from October 2nd to the 4th in Boca Raton, FL.
On the first day, Dr. Harvey presented a case study report on Mohs Surgery for eccrine tumors of the skin. The following day, he participated in a live neurotoxin and fillers demonstration. Throughout the event, he moderated various panel discussions.
"The purpose of this year's meeting was to highlight, demonstrate and explain the latest advances in dermatologic surgery," said Dr. Harvey, who has more than 17 years of experience in cosmetic dermatology and surgery. "I love participating in collaborative events like this. It was a great learning opportunity for all involved, and I am looking forward to using this knowledge in the office."
As always, the meeting brought together a respected faculty of experts, including Dr. Harvey. The group of national and distinguished Florida colleagues shared knowledge and featured "hands-on" demonstrations that Dr. harvey has since been able to incorporate into the office. Presentations highlighted excisions, Mohs surgery, reconstruction, pathology, office efficiency, fillers, lasers, and more.
All events focused on practical information to be used in the office. Few aspects and questions regarding dermatologic surgery were not discussed, and the meeting concluded with a presentation on legal issues in dermatologic surgery.
Among the key topics of the meeting was Mohs surgery. This procedure is a specialty of Dr. Harvey's. It is an advanced skin cancer removal technique with a cure rate of up to 99 percent for certain tumors. Currently, Mohs surgery is the most precise method for removing skin cancer. It is reserved for skin cancers to the head and neck area, large tumors and those recurring from previous treatment.
Dr. Harvey's report on a case study of eccrine sweat gland carcinomas offered insights on this rare group of tumors, which have the potential of metastasis and local destruction. As Dr. Harvey reported, precise identification of these carcinomas is based on patient history. Therapy and prognosis vary according to microscopic appearance and detail.
Dr. Harvey’s demonstration of Bellafil addressed the newly FDA approved method to reduce and correct acne scarring. With results up to five years, patients must be pretested to receive this product. The gel is injected into the skin, increasing its mass and elevating the surrounding skin, smoothing scarred areas.
