(PRWEB) December 30, 2014 -- Dr. John Swinton, professor in practical theology and pastoral care in the School of Divinity, Religious Studies and Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom, and Bishop Peggy A. Johnson of the Philadelphia Area of The United Methodist Church, are featured speakers at United Theological Seminary’s Doctor of Ministry Intensive, to be held Jan. 26–30, 2015. Worship and plenary sessions, which focus on the theme “Ministry with People with Disabilities,” are open to the public.
Johnson is the featured preacher at opening worship on Jan. 26 at Precious Blood Catholic Church, 4961 Salem Ave., at 7 p.m. Having served as a pastor of an all-deaf congregation for 20 years, Johnson has experience working with not only the deaf and deaf-blind communities but also those who have mobility, intellectual and mental health challenges.
Swinton will lead the plenary session on Jan. 27 at 8:45 a.m. and will preach at the Jan. 28 chapel service at 8 a.m., both at the Marriott Hotel, 1414 S. Patterson Blvd. Swinton has a background in nursing and healthcare chaplaincy and his research and publications focus on the areas of practical theology, mental health, spirituality and human well-being, and the theology of disability.
